BE Prepared

PHILIPSBURG, ST. MAARTEN, JUNE 1, 2020

Secure your internet connection this hurricane season

It's the start or the 2020 storm season & preparation is key to securing your internet service. Your wireless internet antenna belongs to you. Add safeguarding your equipment to your pre-storm checklist to bounce back as quickly as possible after a storm.

HOW CAN YOU PREPARE?
If a storm is on track to our island, ensure that you safeguard your equipment ahead of time. Take down your outdoor wireless antenna* and bracket before a storm to avoid loss or damage from high winds and flying debris. For safety reasons, plan to do so when wind-conditions will still allow. By dismounting the equipment, you'll avoid having to replace your antenna after a storm, plus you'll also increase the likelihood of restoring your service faster if your antenna remains intact. Don't forget to store it in a safe/dry location until the storm has passed.

QUICK TIP
Take a picture of your antenna before you take it down. That way you can see how it was positioned and which direction it was pointing to for connection to our tower. This will make things easier when it's time to put your antenna back up.

NEED HELP?
Taking down your antenna before a storm may be a challenge for a variety of reasons. If the following applies to you, we can assist  with taking down your antenna **.
  • You are physically impaired
  • You are 60 years or older
  • Dismount of your antenna requires a ladder taller than the standard 12 foot length

Should you need assistance, please contact us at least 48 hours before expected storm landfall, but preferably earlier. The available time-slots will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Once weather conditions no longer allow, our technicians will not be able to assist with antenna removals.

GOT FIXED INTERNET?
With fixed internet you have an indoor modem instead of an outdoor antenna. Still prepare to safeguard your equipment by covering it with a plastic bag and sealing it as well as possible. This will help avoid damage from flooding and other water leakage.

Our technical team also inspects and reinforces our infrastructure to ensure resilience throughout the storm season. By preparing together we can ensure soonest restoration of service.
